Every proven entrepreneur knows the ropes, and most are willing to help others achieve success. Sharing your toolbox with the up-and-comers is like a duty. In my mastermind group, we lock ourselves in a conference room and share all our marketing and operational ideas. Everything we know, we share. We have contests, bring in speakers and execute workshops for team building. Whether it’s a formal or informal mastermind group, you will gain powerful insights and perspectives from your industry peers.
Ask a lot of questions.
The smartest people ask the most questions. Remember, there is never a stupid question. When I’m in a room with other restaurateurs, I know right away who is successful. You always find the ones who think they know simply everything. They get joy in telling you, “I already know that,” or “That doesn’t work for me.” Here is your challenge when you go to the next chamber mixer or any other business event: Remember that most of talking effectively is listening. Pretend you made a bet that you will listen more than you talk. Of course, people will ask you questions. Answer them quickly and then resume asking questions. The only way to get smarter is by learning. Imagine being in grade school and talking more than the teacher.
Learn how to become a marketing maniac.
You are the front line of marketing when it comes to your business. You know it best. No one else can do what you do. You may hire a specialist, but ultimately the final decision is yours to make, and it’s up to you to show off the passionate evangelism you have for your brand. That alone will sell your product or service to anyone who notices.
There are many ways to better your business, but looking at all the major techniques, I feel these are some of the common and effective denominators for all businesses. These will help you become a better entrepreneur.
